Gluten-Free Survey Results
Part 1: Just The Facts
Our first Gluten-Free Survey is done, and we found
the results (to say the least) very interesting.
Let's have a look at the multiple-choice questions first.

How old are you? Almost a quarter of the participants were between 40 and 50 years old. Otherwise, ages are fairly evenly distributed, with the fewest being 26-30 or over 70.

What is your gender? Most of the participants were female. 12% were male.

Do you have Celiac Disease? 60% of the participants say yes.

How were you diagnosed? 80% were diagnosed by a doctor. The remaining 20% are self-diagnosed.

How long have you been gluten-free? Respondents were fairly evenly split on this. Most say either 3 years or less, or 5-10 years.

Is living gluten-free a personal or medical choice? Most of the participants say it's medical.

How long did it take to be rid of symptoms after you went gluten-free? Most were symptom-free in less than 6 months, but almost a quarter of the respondents still have symptoms.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how easy was it to transition to living gluten-free? 1 means effortless, 10 means a huge struggle. No one said it was easy, and the largest segment of participants rated their transition a 7.

Do you have other family members with gluten issues? 40% say yes.

How gluten-free is your household? Most say only partially. 28% say they have a completely gluten-free home.

How did you find your way to GlutenFreeMaine.com? A third of the respondents said they read about us in local media. Others heard it from a friend or found us in a web search. A few of the participants saw us mentioned on a blog or saw one of our flyers.

Do you find our listings useful? Unanimously, the participants do!

Have you made a purchase or selected a restaurant based on our listings? 92% of respondents say they have.

Do you cheat on your gluten-free diet? Most said "Never", but 20% admitted to cutting a few corners.
So, that's Part 1 of our survey results.
Next, we'll look at where you shop, what you "love" and what you "hate" about living gluten-free.
Congratulations to Sharon C., of Natick, MA. She is the winner of the Mother's Mountain gift basket.
